Come and support a local charity: Soul Kitchen Chester Celebrates 10 Years this February

Soul Kitchen Chester. You may or may not have heard of them before.

Today I’m going to change that.

They’re a local, volunteer-run charity in Chester supporting people experiencing homelessness, food poverty, and serious hardship.

And before anyone thinks “that’s sad but it’s not my world” it kind of is. Because hardship doesn’t always arrive with a warning.

It can be a job loss, a relationship breakdown, a rent increase you can’t keep up with, your mental health dipping, a string of bad luck that turns into a crisis.

Suddenly you’re not “someone else” reading about homelessness, you’re one of the people trying to work out where you’re going to sleep, what you’re going to eat, and who you can talk to without feeling judged.

That’s where Soul Kitchen steps in.

This February, they’re celebrating 10 years, and that’s not just a cute milestone. Ten years of doing the hard, unglamorous work that keeps communities stitched together. Ten years of welcoming people in, feeding people properly, and supporting people when life’s been rough.

So I wanted to use this blog for one reason: to give them a proper shout-out and encourage you to support them as they mark a decade of impact.

So what actually is Soul Kitchen?

Soul Kitchen Chester is a local charity that uses food and connections to support people in the community.

They run a weekly Saturday drop-in (5pm–6:30pm) where people can access a hot meal, essentials, and importantly support and conversation.

They also run Soul in a Bowl, cookery sessions that are about empowerment: building confidence, learning practical skills like cooking and budgeting, and sharing a meal together. It’s not just “here’s food for tonight”, it’s support that helps people move forward.

The bit that makes you proud of your city

Soul Kitchen has built a reputation for being welcoming, kind, and genuinely community-led. They’re about dignity. They’re about giving people a chance. They’re about making it easier for someone to take their next step, whether that’s through support, confidence-building, skills, or simply being in a place that feels safe and human.

And they have real success stories, not the glossy “everything changed overnight” kind, but the proper, hard-won ones: people finding stability, getting back into accommodation, building routines, working towards training or employment, and slowly becoming themselves again.

Sometimes the biggest win is simply someone showing up again next week, because they’ve decided life is still worth trying.

So this is my ask

Let’s support them and raise some money for their 10th anniversary.

You don’t have to be a big sponsor or a big business to make a difference. Sometimes it’s:

  • buying a ticket

  • donating a raffle prize

  • sharing the event with your mates

  • getting your workplace involved

  • showing up on the night and spending money that goes towards a good cause

It all adds up.

We’re really proud to say we’re sponsoring Soul Kitchen’s 10-year anniversary Heart and Soul Ball on 12 February 2026 (7pm, Chester Racecourse), and we’re genuinely looking forward to it.

We want to help make it a big celebration, because they deserve that, but also a strong fundraiser, because the work they do is too important to be left scraping by.
