HELP US GET HOSPITALITY INTO CLASSROOMS

For years, hospitality has talked about the same challenge.
How do we attract more people into the industry?
How do we change perceptions?
How do we show young people that hospitality is not just a part-time job, but an industry full of careers, creativity, confidence, people skills, food, travel, leadership and opportunity?
For us, the answer starts earlier.
It starts in schools.
That is exactly why Bee Our Guest was created.
Bee Our Guest was designed to support children’s education in the classroom while introducing Key Stage 2 pupils to the wonderful world of hospitality in a way that feels fun, accessible and meaningful.
And now, after a lot of work behind the scenes, we can finally share the next stage.
Working alongside The Literacy Company, Bee Our Guest has now been developed into a complete 15-session literacy unit for Years 3 and 4.
This unit is designed to run across three weeks and is fully aligned to the English National Curriculum and Curriculum for Wales.
That means this is not just a nice idea.
It is a ready-to-teach classroom resource.
At the heart of the unit is the rich, character-driven story of Bee Our Guest, where pupils explore the world of Bea, Barny, Fergus and Fauna, building both a connection to the story and an understanding of hospitality along the way.
Using The Literacy Company’s proven approach, the unit brings together:
Mastery-focused progression
Text-based learning
Grammar skills woven into reading and writing
Purposeful writing opportunities
Drama and spoken language activities
Creative curriculum-led learning.
Pupils will develop confidence as readers, writers and speakers while producing high-quality work rooted in a meaningful and engaging context.
The full unit also includes a complete teaching sequence and PowerPoint, giving teachers everything they need to deliver it properly in the classroom.
Yes, Bee Our Guest supports literacy. But it also opens the door to so much more.
Through the story, pupils can explore communication, confidence and body language by looking at how guests are welcomed and put at ease.
They can link to science by learning about nutrition, healthy eating, animals and habitats.
They can link to art and design by exploring hotel architecture, interiors, sketching and creative observation.
They can link to design and technology through cooking, menus, healthy diets, ingredients and seasonality.
They can link to geography by looking at land use, towns, cities, hotels, tourism and local economies.
They can link to history by exploring buildings, monarchs, heritage and the changing world around hospitality.
Looking ahead, there are also clear opportunities to connect this work to citizenship, financial literacy and real-world career education.
That is the power of hospitality.
It is not one subject.
It is everywhere.
It is people.
It is food.
It is buildings.
It is travel.
It is business.
It is culture.
It is creativity.
It is service.
It is life.
And yet, too often, children are not introduced to it as a serious, exciting and valuable career path early enough.
We want to change that.
The work has been done.
The book exists.
The literacy unit exists.
The curriculum links are there.
The classroom resource is ready.
Now we need help getting it into schools.
We want each child taking our book home.
Talking about the characters.
Talking about hotels, restaurants, food, guests, teamwork and careers.
Alongside the books, we also want to create wider fun activities that bring the story to life in schools. That could include career days, food and drink activities, hands-on hospitality tasks, creative workshops and real-world learning experiences linked to the industry.
But to do that, we need support.
So this is our ask to the hospitality industry.
Can you help us fund this for schools?
Can you help us get Bee Our Guest into classrooms?
Can you help us give children the chance to learn about hospitality through a proper education-led resource?
This is a real opportunity for the industry to stop just talking about future talent and actually invest in it.
If we want more young people to understand hospitality, we have to show them what it is.
If we want parents to see hospitality differently, we have to bring them into the conversation too.
If we want schools to talk about our industry, we have to give them the tools to do it.
That is what Bee Our Guest is trying to do.
We have done the work.
Now we need help to make it happen.
If you are a hospitality business, supplier, association, trust, charity, hotelier, restaurateur, sponsor, funder or industry supporter who wants to help us bring hospitality into classrooms, we would love to hear from you.
Help us get books into children’s hands.
Help us get hospitality into schools.
Help us inspire the next generation.
